Abstract
Barurejo Village, situated in the Siliragung District of Banyuwangi Regency, is a designated social forestry area with the establishment of Barurejo Makmur Sejahtera (KUPS). While social forestry activities are typically associated with men, it is imperative to recognize and involve women in these endeavors to enhance household economies. Thus, this study aims to (1) ascertain the role of women, particularly housewives, in leveraging social forestry for household economic improvement, and (2) identify the various forms of women's participation in social forestry areas. This research adopts a descriptive methodology, relying on primary data collected through observations and interviews. The study comprises 25 respondents selected through non-probability sampling techniques. Data analysis employs the Harvard model framework analysis, which encompasses activity profiles, access and control profiles, and influential factors. Findings reveal that women predominantly engage in production activities, spanning from land processing to sales, within the social forestry context. Conversely, men tend to work outside the home, while women primarily undertake domestic responsibilities. Counseling and training initiatives are predominantly led by men, whereas women have greater access to credit facilities. Decision-making in farming leans towards women, particularly in sales-related decisions, while household heads dominate deliberation activities. The outcomes of women's involvement in social forestry are notably beneficial, particularly in terms of farming outcomes. Women's participation primarily manifests as idea generation and labor contributions, highlighting their multifaceted roles within these initiatives.
